Santa Croce, Mortara, Renaissance abbey in Mortara, Italy
The Santa Croce abbey exhibits classical architecture with a symmetrical facade, extensive naves, and marble decorative elements throughout the interior structure.
The original church, established in 1080 under Pope Gregory VII outside village walls, underwent reconstruction in 1596 following designs by Pellegrino Tibaldi.
The third chapel contains the 1533 Adoration of Magi canvas by Bernardino Lanino, while the fourth chapel displays Saint Michael confronting Satan by Guglielmo Caccia.
The church maintains regular visiting hours and stands as a primary religious structure in Mortara's center, welcoming both worshippers and architecture enthusiasts.
Between two chapels, a pilaster strip holds a footprint attributed to Christ, carved in Carrara marble, dating from the Crusades period.
