Castello De Falconibus, Medieval castle in Pulsano, Italy
Castello De Falconibus is a medieval castle in Pulsano featuring a quadrangular layout with five towers of varying heights. The main entrance faces west toward the central plaza, where the structure remains a prominent part of the town's historic core.
The castle was founded around 1100, built initially as a fortification centered on one tower to shelter residents fleeing inland from pirate raids. This inland migration reflected the need to escape maritime threats that dominated coastal life at that time.
The walls display coats of arms from two noble families that ruled here over centuries, telling the story of changing ownership and power. These heraldic symbols remain visible as reminders of the families who once controlled this place.
The castle hosts art exhibitions and municipal events throughout the year, accessed via the main entrance on Via Costantinopoli in the town center. Its central location makes it easy to reach while exploring Pulsano's historic area.
Three of the five original towers remain incorporated into the surrounding buildings, creating a seamless blend between medieval fortifications and modern structures. This integration demonstrates how the town expanded around the castle over the centuries.
