Monte Cadelle, Mountain summit in Lombardy, Italy
Monte Cadelle is a mountain summit in the Alpi Orobie Occidentali with rocky ridges on the north face and grassy slopes facing south. The peak sits at 2483 m and can be reached through several marked hiking trails that connect different starting points in the valleys below.
The mountain gained prominence after a major flood in the Valtellina valley in 1987 damaged the region below. This event led to the installation of a three-faced statue on the peak as a symbol of protection and remembrance.
The memorial statue at the summit faces three directions, each representing one of the valleys below that look to this place for protection. Local communities connect this location to remembering a major flood and the role of the mountain in their shared landscape.
Visitors should wear sturdy hiking boots and bring layers for changing mountain weather on the climb. The best season is late spring through early fall when snow has melted and trails are clearly passable.
On clear days from the peak you can see distant mountain ranges including Badile and Bernina of the Retiche Alps. These extensive views make the location valuable for anyone wanting to understand the larger mountain landscape of the region.
