Osservatorio astronomico di Castelgrande, Astronomical observatory in Castelgrande, Italy.
Castelgrande Observatory is a research facility located at 1,250 meters (4,100 feet) elevation, equipped with a 156-centimeter (61-inch) diameter mirror telescope for detailed sky observations. The facility houses modern instruments designed for scientific analysis of celestial objects.
The facility was established in 1993 following initial site studies that began in 1965 to locate a place with minimal light pollution for astronomy. The elevated location proved ideal for scientific research under favorable observing conditions.
The observatory runs educational programs for schools and organizations throughout the year, inviting visitors to observe through telescopes and join scientific workshops. These activities make astronomy accessible and engaging for people of all ages.
Visitors can contact the facility by phone to arrange guided tours that include access to the telescopes and educational spaces. Booking in advance is recommended, as observations depend on weather conditions and availability.
The observatory received the designation code L28 in 2018 and participates in monitoring space debris through the CastelGauss project. This specialized work contributes importantly to global space safety efforts.
