Tower of Roccapreturo

The Tower of Roccapreturo is a medieval defensive structure in Acciano with a pentagonal footprint built from irregular stones and reinforced corner blocks. The building features a pointed-arch entrance and contains interior rooms constructed during different periods.

The tower was built in the 12th century and later expanded in the 13th century with interior rooms, reflecting different construction phases. The coat of arms of the Beffi family displayed above the entrance testifies to this family's control over the area.

The structure shows the medieval craftsmanship typical of the Abruzzo region, with irregular stone blocks and carefully dressed corner stones that reveal its age. The distinctive pointed-arch entrance demonstrates a building style that was common in this area during the Middle Ages.

The tower is accessible by following marked paths through Acciano, with morning hours offering the best natural light to see the stone walls clearly. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear since the routes pass over uneven terrain.

Above the entrance sits the original pointed arch topped with the preserved coat of arms of the Beffi family and an image of Saint Michael positioned above. This rare combination of family heraldry and religious symbol shows how authority and faith were merged into the structure itself.
