Santa Maria Assunta church

Santa Maria Assunta is a Gothic church with a rectangular layout located in Fiera di Primiero. A bell tower featuring a stone shaft and painted clock face rises beside the choir, while the interior is shaped by multiple side aisles and a polygonal apse.

The building developed through several construction phases, with archaeological work revealing foundations from the 5th and 6th centuries beneath the current floor. Major renovations and artistic decoration took place throughout the late medieval period.

Local painters decorated the interior with frescoes starting in the late 1400s, bringing religious scenes and colors to the walls. These paintings remain a key part of how the church looks and feels to visitors today.

The church sits in the center of Fiera di Primiero within easy walking distance of buses and lodging options. It is straightforward to visit as part of exploring the village and its surroundings.

Between 1493 and 1495, builders from the Alpine regions oversaw renovations that brought together local miners for construction work. This collaboration resulted in significant changes to the church's interior, notably equalizing the height of the side aisles.
