Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista

The chiesa di San Giovanni Battista is a church building in Lumezzane with a gabled facade divided by cornices into two sections. Each section contains six pilasters and a curved pediment above the entrance, while the interior leads to an elevated presbytery connected by rounded arches.

The church was built in the 12th century on the site of Roman ruins and underwent major renovations in 1570 under architect Lodovico Beretta. This rebuilding established much of the structure visitors see today.

The interior preserves recovered 16th-century frescoes that reveal the artistic traditions once valued here. These works decorate the side chapels and contribute to the spiritual character visitors experience when walking through the space.

The church is located in the Pieve district and continues to serve as an active place of worship. Visitors should dress appropriately and be respectful during any services that may be taking place.

The bell tower features a square base with single-lancet windows on each side and finishes with a distinctive crenellated crown. This detail sets it apart from typical church towers in the region.
