Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli

The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli is a Gothic church featuring a single nave with polygonal chapels and painted frescoes decorating its interior surfaces. The space is structured to guide visitors toward the main altar, with walls covered in artwork from different periods.

The basilica was built in 1469 after receiving approval from Pope Paul II and served as an important religious center for the community. In 1803 the Franciscan friars were forced to leave, marking a turning point that led to a long period of decline.

The basilica holds artworks that reflect the religious devotion of the local community throughout centuries. Visitors can see paintings and sculptures that document how people in this valley expressed their faith and spiritual beliefs over time.
