Santuario di Altino, Baroque church in Albino, Italy
The Santuario di Altino is a Baroque church situated at approximately 900 meters elevation, featuring three interior naves with intersecting vaulted ceilings. The interior is decorated with architectural elements typical of Baroque design.
Construction of the sanctuary began in 1496 following a reported Marian apparition in the area. Major rebuilding work occurred in the early 1600s, as evidenced by structural elements from that period.
The sanctuary takes its name from the Virgin Mary and her connection to the mountain location. Pilgrims visit regularly to pray and participate in religious observances throughout the year.
You can reach the sanctuary via an asphalt road from Albino or through walking trails from Passo del Colle Gallo. Comfortable walking shoes are advisable, especially if you choose the trail route.
A gilded statue of the Virgin Mary crowns the bell tower, created in 1989 from jewelry donated by pilgrims and local worshippers. The statue is visible from far away and has become a distinctive landmark.
