Chiesa di Sant'Andrea

The chiesa di Sant'Andrea is a medieval church in Spello featuring a carved Romanesque doorway as its main entrance. Inside, a single-nave Latin cross layout opens to multiple side chapels, each adorned with decorative elements and religious artwork.

The church first appears in historical records around 1025 as a property of Camaldolese monks from a nearby monastery. The Franciscan order later took control of it during the 13th century.

The church displays works by notable Renaissance artists throughout its interior spaces. These paintings shape the spiritual life of the town and draw the attention of both locals and visitors.

The church welcomes visitors to explore its religious artworks and admire a decorated wooden choir from the 17th century. Visitors should dress respectfully, as this is an active place of worship.

During renovation work, archaeologists discovered remnants of an ancient Roman forum buried beneath the rear portion of the building. This discovery reveals that the site was inhabited long before the church was constructed.
