The area emerged in the 13th century after demolishing part of city walls, transforming from 'l'appianato' into a significant urban space.
The Roncioniana Library houses a 1475 majolica piece by Andrea della Robbia depicting the Archangel Raphael and Tobias.
The square provides parking spaces for cars and motorcycles, with a pedestrian section maintained in front of the church.
The Dolphin Fountain, created by Ferdinando Tacca in 1658, displays two dolphins with intertwined tails in a 20th-century reproduction.
