Teatro Akropolis

Teatro Akropolis is a theatre company and educational center housed in a converted space within the Gramsci-Volta school complex with a flexible layout accommodating roughly 200 spectators. The organization combines artistic productions with free training courses offered in partnership with the Order of Journalists of Liguria.

The ensemble was founded in 2001 under the name WalterSteiner, focusing on performance research and theatrical arts. From its start, the group investigated the pre-literary origins of theatre and its creative evolution.

The venue hosts the international festival 'Testimonianze ricerca azioni', showcasing contemporary performances and workshops that explore new theatrical forms. Visitors encounter artistic experiments and discussions that challenge conventional ideas about theatre today.

The venue is located in the Sestri Ponente neighborhood within a school complex, so visitors should be aware they are entering an active educational space. Check the program in advance, as performances and events are scheduled year-round with varying formats.

The group received the Ubu Prize for special projects in 2017 and screened a documentary film at the Venice Biennale in 2022. These recognitions highlight how its work stands out within contemporary Italian theatre.
