Villa Comunale Regina Margherita, Municipal park in Castellammare del Golfo, Italy
Villa Comunale Regina Margherita is a municipal park in Castellammare del Golfo with multiple terraced levels descending toward the waterfront. Stone staircases link the different levels and provide views of the harbor area.
The grounds belonged to the Crociferi Fathers from 1663 until 1870, when they transferred to public ownership following Italy's unification. This shift marked a transition from religious control to community use in the late 1800s.
The park is named after Queen Margherita, wife of King Umberto I, reflecting its past as a royal retreat. Visitors can still see the formal pathways and gathering spaces designed for official occasions.
The park sits along Corso Bernardo Mattarella and is easily accessible from the town center. Visitors will find children's play areas, souvenir shops, and shaded spots for resting.
A Ficus tree planted in 1890 stands in the park as a living memorial to a local student's achievements. The tree remains one of the park's oldest botanical specimens and draws visitors interested in its long history.
