Defensive walls in Cittadella

The circular fortification structure extends for 1,461 meters, incorporating 32 towers and four gates aligned with cardinal directions around Cittadella's center.

The walls were constructed starting in 1220 by Paduan forces to establish military control and counter the influence of neighboring Castelfranco Veneto.

Medieval construction techniques remain visible in the box masonry method, featuring parallel walls filled with stones and lime reaching heights of 16 meters.

Visitors can access the restored walkway along the walls' perimeter, which provides views of both the historical center and the surrounding Veneto landscape.

The fortress contains the Casa del Capitano, where frescoes depicting events from 1260 to 1600 document the city's medieval development.
