Stadio Pier Cesare Tombolato, football stadium
Stadio Pier Cesare Tombolato is a football stadium in Cittadella, a small town in the province of Padua in northeastern Italy. It has several stands, some of which are covered, and holds around 8,000 spectators.
The stadium opened in 1981 as the home ground of the local club and has stayed so ever since. Over the following decades it was rebuilt and expanded several times to meet growing demands for comfort and safety.
The stadium is named after Piercesare Tombolato, a young goalkeeper from Cittadella who died early and whose memory the town keeps alive. During home matches, fans fill the stands with songs and scarves in the team colors.
The stadium sits close to the center of Cittadella and can be reached on foot, by car, or by train since it is near the railway station. Parking is available in the surrounding streets, which makes arriving by car straightforward.
The running track that once surrounded the pitch was removed and the playing field moved closer to the stands, which is uncommon for a stadium of this size. As a result, fans sit much nearer to the action than in most comparable grounds.
