San Francesco d'Assisi e San Lorenzo Martire Church

The San Francesco d'Assisi e San Lorenzo Martire Church is a Gothic Revival church building in the Sabbioni district of Crema. The interior is divided into three sections by brick columns finished with decorative render, while statues of Saints Francis and Lawrence stand on the exterior pillars.

Capuchin friars arrived in Crema before 1575 and began constructing a monastery near Sabbioni that year. The monastery became an important religious center for the surrounding area over the following centuries.

This church serves as the parish center for the Sabbioni neighborhood, where residents gather for regular worship and community events. The building remains the spiritual focus of this suburban district today.

The church is located in a quiet area of the Sabbioni district and is easily reached from the surrounding residential streets. Visitors can enter during worship times or scheduled visiting hours to view the interior and external features.

During World War II, the monks of this monastery took part in underground resistance work against fascism. They continued their religious work while secretly helping those who needed to escape from the authorities.
