Sanjūsangen-dō is a Buddhist temple of the Tendai sect in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto, Japan.
Officially known as 'Rengeō-in', this temple was built by Taira no Kiyomori for Emperor Go-Shirakawa in 1164.
The temple is famous for its 1001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy.
It's open to the public and hosts an archery event every January.
Sanjūsangen-dō is the longest wooden structure in Japan.
