Hamura

Hamura is a settlement in western Tokyo traversed by the Tama and spreading over a small area at the edge of the metropolis. Residential neighborhoods, industrial facilities and green spaces define the townscape of this suburban community.

The community emerged in 1889 as a village and gained city status in 1991 after more than a century of growth. This development mirrors the expansion of Tokyo into surrounding areas during the second half of the 20th century.

The waterworks along the river shape the local appearance and recall the importance of water supply for the region. Visitors still see the historic canals that have influenced daily life here for centuries.

The Ome Line brings travelers here from central Tokyo, while National Route 16 allows road traffic from the region. Those exploring the area find parks and riverside paths suited for a walk.

In April, hundreds of thousands of tulips in numerous varieties bloom here and transform the riverbank into a colorful field. This planting emerged from a partnership with a Dutch municipality and is renewed annually.
