Kitakata, Traditional city in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan

Located in northern Aizu region, Kitakata spreads across 554 square kilometers with mountains to the north and agricultural fields surrounding the center.

The area transformed from ancient Mutsu Province into a regional center during the Edo period, known for lacquerware production and sake brewing traditions.

The city holds 2,600 traditional kura storehouses, constructed from stone and clay, now functioning as shops, restaurants, breweries, and residential buildings.

Visitors reach Kitakata by taking the JR Tohoku Shinkansen to Koriyama station, followed by a transfer to the JR Banetsu-saisen rapid train.

Kitakata maintains 120 ramen establishments serving local-style noodles with thick, flat, curly characteristics in pork and niboshi-based broth for breakfast.
