Iyo

The city stretches between the Seto Inland Sea coastline and the mountainous regions of Ehime Prefecture, covering an area of 194 square kilometers.

The modern city formed in 1955 through the merger of Gunchū with surrounding villages, later expanding in 2005 by incorporating Nakayama and Futami towns.

The Mishima Shrine near the beach presents hundreds of stone steps leading to an entrance gate, offering views across the Seto Inland Sea.

The transportation network includes the Yosan railway line, Iyotetsu Gunchū Line, Matsuyama Expressway, and National Routes 56 and 378.

The city maintains headquarters of major food manufacturers specializing in dried bonito flakes, while local farmers produce Nakayama chestnuts and mikan oranges.
