Tsuyama, Historical castle town in northern Okayama Prefecture, Japan

The city spans across valleys with mountains forming natural borders, containing numerous preserved buildings from the feudal period along its main streets.

Established in 713 as the capital of Mimasaka Province, Tsuyama gained prominence when Tokugawa Ieyasu awarded the region to Tadamasa Mori in 1603.

Scholars from Tsuyama made substantial contributions to Japanese society by translating foreign texts and developing policies regarding Western influences during the 1700s.

Travelers reach Tsuyama by taking the Sanyo Line to Okayama Station, then transferring to the Tsuyama Line for an hour-long journey north.

The local dialect includes specific expressions such as 'bucchi,' meaning 'very,' which distinguishes it from standard Japanese language patterns.
