Keikyū Kamata Station, Railway interchange station in Kamata, Japan
Keikyū Kamata Station is an elevated railway interchange in Kamata, Japan, connecting multiple lines across three levels. The platforms are organized by direction and serve trains heading to Shinagawa, Haneda Airport, Yokohama, and Misakiguchi.
The station opened on February 1, 1901, under the name Kamata and changed to Keihin Kamata in 1925 before receiving its current name in 1987. Between 2000 and 2012, a major rebuilding project elevated the ground-level tracks to their present configuration.
The station takes its name from the Kamata neighborhood and serves as a key link between local travelers and Haneda Airport through direct rail connections. Its elevated structure allows pedestrians and vehicles to cross beneath the tracks without waiting, improving traffic flow in the densely populated urban area.
Travelers can find both the Keikyū Main Line and Keikyū Airport Line at this interchange, with direct trains to Haneda Airport departing from different platforms. Signage indicates platform assignments by final destination, helping with navigation across the three levels.
The Japan Institute of Design Promotion awarded the station a Good Design Award in 2012 after the elevation project was completed for its successful urban integration. The new structure eliminated several busy level crossings that had regularly caused traffic jams in the neighborhood.
