Bitchū Matsuyama Castle, Hilltop castle in Takahashi, Japan.

The main keep of Bitchū Matsuyama Castle stands at 430 meters above sea level, making it the highest elevated castle structure in Japan.

Built in 1240 by Akiba Shigenobu, the castle served as a strategic fortification controlling transportation routes between the Seto Inland Sea and surrounding regions.

The castle represents one of only twelve remaining original wooden keeps in Japan, earning its designation as an Important Cultural Property.

Visitors can access the castle via a combination of train travel to Takahashi Station, followed by a taxi ride to Fuigo Pass and a 20-minute walk.

During specific weather conditions, the castle appears to float above a sea of clouds when viewed from the Unkai Observatory in the early morning.
