Bando, Japanese municipality in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan

Bandō is a city in Ibaraki Prefecture situated on the north bank of the Tone River, combining industrial zones with agricultural land. The landscape is shaped by vegetable fields and manufacturing areas, with the river forming a natural boundary to the south.

The city was formed in 2005 through the merger of Iwai and Sashima, each with their own prior histories before consolidation. The ruins of Sakasai Castle reflect earlier settlement patterns and administrative structures that shaped the region.

The name Bandō draws from an ancient regional designation for this area. The expanses of cultivated land and traditional farming remain central to how residents identify with their surroundings today.

The city is accessible via the Ken-Ō Expressway and National Route 354, offering solid road connections for visitors. Since there is no passenger train station, arriving by car or long-distance bus is the most practical option.

The Ibaraki Nature Museum holds a collection of animal and plant species found in the region, offering a closer look at local ecology. The exhibits showcase the natural environment that surrounds the city today.
