Mount Usu, Active volcano in Hokkaido, Japan
Mount Usu is an active stratovolcano located in the Shikotsu-Toya National Park in Hokkaido, Japan.
It has erupted four times since 1900: in 1910, 1944–45 (which created Showa-shinzan), 1977–82 and 2000.
The mountain, particularly known for its beautiful crater lake, plays a significant role in local folklore and culture.
Visitors can explore the mountain via walking trails, and a ropeway is available to reach the summit.
Showa-shinzan, a lava dome associated with Mount Usu, was formed during the 1944-1945 eruption.
