Shimada

Shimada spans across both banks of the Ōi River within the Shida Plains of west-central Shizuoka Prefecture, covering 315.7 square kilometers of land.

The city emerged from a fortification near Kakegawa Castle during the Sengoku period and later developed into a strategic post town along the Tōkaidō highway.
