Koshi

The city of Kōshi spans across northern Kumamoto Prefecture with fertile volcanic ash soils from Mount Aso supporting substantial grain production in its northern region.

Kōshi evolved from its origins in ancient Higo Province through the Edo Period, gaining town status in 1966 before merging with Nishikōshi to establish the current city in 2006.
