Takehara, Historical port city in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan

Located along the Seto Inland Sea, Takehara extends across 118 square kilometers with traditional buildings and narrow streets dating from the Edo period.

The city emerged as a major salt production center during the Edo period, leading to substantial economic growth and the construction of merchant residences.

The preservation district contains numerous traditional buildings that showcase the architectural style of wealthy merchants from the salt trade era.

Visitors can reach Takehara via a 15-minute walk from Takehara Station on the JR Kure Line or by car from the Sanyo Expressway.

The Takehara Lattice, a distinctive window covering design found throughout the city, demonstrates the advanced carpentry techniques of local craftsmen.
