Kodaira, Residential city in Tokyo Prefecture, Japan.
Kodaira is a residential city in the western part of Tokyo, combining universities, parks, and quiet neighborhoods. The area covers about 20 square kilometers (8 square miles) with green spaces distributed between built-up zones.
The city began in 1889 as a small farming village and grew over the decades through mergers. In 1962, several places joined together, establishing the boundaries we see today.
The Green Road follows the old Tamagawa Canal and now serves as a popular walking and cycling route for residents. Along this path, old cherry trees bloom in spring, drawing families and students for walks.
Several railway lines connect the city to central Tokyo, including the JR Musashino Line and Seibu Railway routes. The parks and paths are suitable for walks and accessible to visitors on foot or by bicycle.
The cherry trees along the canal date from the 18th century and form one of the oldest such avenues in the region. The continuous Green Road connects three different sections over a total length of 21 kilometers (13 miles).
