Kodaira Hirakushi Denchu Art Museum

The Kodaira Hirakushi Denchu Art Museum displays wooden sculptures and personal artifacts in two connected buildings, including the sculptor's former residence and an exhibition hall.

The museum opened its doors on October 25, 1984, in the final home of master sculptor Hirakushi Denchu, who lived there until his death at 107 years old.

The museum houses numerous wooden sculptures that demonstrate traditional Japanese carving techniques, including the notable work 'Shoga-Kimigayo' depicting a boy singing the national anthem.

Located 45 minutes from Tokyo Station via Chuo Line and Seibu Tamako Line, the museum welcomes visitors Wednesday through Monday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The museum garden features plum trees that bloom in late February, continuing the natural setting that Hirakushi Denchu maintained throughout his time at the residence.
