小金井市立図書館

The Koganei City Library is a facility with modern equipment spread across multiple floors that provides extensive collections of books, magazines, and digital resources in Japanese and foreign languages. The spaces are functionally designed and offer different areas for various types of use.

The facility was founded in the post-war period as Koganei grew from a rural area into a Tokyo suburb. It became part of the infrastructure that shaped the city's rapid transformation.

Regular storytelling sessions, particularly the popular Totokekko program for infants, transform this space into a gathering place where families from the neighborhood come together. The events shape how people of all ages use the library and connect with one another.

Nine return posts are distributed at various locations throughout Koganei, including at JR Musashi-Koganei and JR Higashi-Koganei stations for convenient material returns. The distribution allows visitors to return materials flexibly without needing to visit the main location.

The building blends traditional reading spaces seamlessly with modern conveniences like free Wi-Fi and electronic lending systems for e-books. This mix of old and new makes the visit both familiar and contemporary.
