Bizen, Traditional pottery city in Okayama Prefecture, Japan

Located in southeastern Okayama Prefecture, Bizen faces the Seto Inland Sea with an intricate coastline and extends across 258 square kilometers of mostly forested terrain.

The city received official recognition in 1971 and underwent a significant expansion in 2005 through the merger with Hinase and Yoshinaga towns.

The Imbe district contains numerous pottery workshops where artisans create Bizen ware, a form of unglazed ceramics that requires ten days of firing in traditional kilns.

The city connects to major transport routes through the JR West Sanyo Main Line, Ako Line, and multiple highways including the Sanyo Expressway.

The Shizutani School stands as Japan's first public educational institution, featuring traditional architecture and landscaped gardens that continue to serve learning purposes.
