Tsubata, Residential town in Kahoku district, Japan

Tsubata is a town in Ishikawa Prefecture situated on varied terrain with mountains and lower-lying areas. The Nanao Line railway passes through it, serving as the main connection to nearby Kanazawa.

The town was founded in 1889 and later absorbed several surrounding villages through mergers. These consolidations in the 1950s shaped the municipality into its current form.

The name Makomo refers to a water plant whose traditional processing shaped life here for generations. This connection to local crafts remains visible today in how residents interact with the surrounding wetlands and waterways.

When planning a visit, keep in mind that infrastructure varies between urban and rural areas throughout the town. The railway connection makes it easy to explore the area and take day trips to Kanazawa.

The town mascot team consists of four characters representing figures from a medieval-era battle. This unusual choice shows how the community draws from its own history when creating modern identity.
