Iga

The city of Iga spans across 558 square kilometers in Mie Prefecture, with mountains to the northeast and the Shigaraki Plateau to the northwest.

From 1460 to 1581, Iga operated as an independent region governed by local ninja families before the construction of Iga Ueno Castle in the 16th century.

The Iga-ryu Ninja Museum presents demonstrations and exhibits about ninja traditions, including authentic tools and weapons used by these medieval agents.

The Iga Railway connects the city to major JR West lines, while the local bus network provides transportation to historical sites and cultural attractions.

Many farmers in medieval Iga turned to ninja training as an alternative source of income due to the challenging agricultural conditions of the clay-rich soil.
