Bashō Memorial Museum, Biographical museum at Ueno Park, Japan
The Bashō Memorial Museum exhibits original scrolls, handwritten poems, and personal artifacts of the renowned Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō inside Ueno Park.
The museum, established in 1959, commemorates Matsuo Bashō who lived from 1644 to 1694 and composed poetry while traveling through Japanese regions.
The exhibitions contain maps detailing the routes of Bashō's journeys across Japan, which influenced his composition of traditional haiku poetry.
The museum opens from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, charges 300 yen for adults and 100 yen for students, and stands five minutes from Uenoshi Station.
The museum preserves Bashō's handwritten manuscripts of Oku no Hosomichi, a travel diary featuring poems inspired by his northern Japan journey.
