Bashō's birth house, Birth house in Iga, Japan.
The wooden residence contains tatami rooms and traditional architectural elements reflecting the living conditions of samurai families in the Edo period.
The house belonged to the Matsuo family until the late 1800s, with Bashō's older brother Hanzaemon inheriting the property after their father Yozaemon.
The structure represents a vital connection to Japanese literary heritage as the birthplace of Matsuo Bashō, who revolutionized haiku poetry in the 17th century.
Visitors can access the house from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with entrance fees of 300 yen for adults and 100 yen for students.
The Chōgetsuken tea house behind the main residence served as the location where Bashō compiled his first collection of verses, Kai Oi.
