Wakamatsu-ku

Wakamatsu-ku is an administrative ward in Kitakyushu that stretches along Dokai Bay, featuring residential neighborhoods, academic institutions, and industrial facilities connected by the Wakato Bridge. The district blends urban development with coastal features throughout its layout.

The ward was created in 1963 as part of an administrative reorganization when Kitakyushu was formed through the merger of five cities. This founding shaped its modern identity as a hub for education and industry.

The Wakamatsu Minato Festival draws residents with traditional fire displays, drumming performances, and local food celebrations that happen throughout the year across the district.
