Tsukubamirai, Suburban city in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.
Tsukubamirai is a suburban city in Ibaraki Prefecture that stretches across flat terrain south of Lake Kasumigaura. The landscape shows residential areas between rice fields, while the Kinugawa River flows through the western part of the municipality.
The municipality was formed on March 27, 2006, when the town of Ina merged with Yawara village in Tsukuba District. This fusion transformed an agricultural zone into a residential area connected by the Tsukuba Express line.
The Kinugawa and Kokaigawa rivers cross the municipal area and continue to shape the rice-growing landscape around the town. Fields alternate with residential neighborhoods, while old irrigation channels remain visible along the roads.
The Tsukuba Express line connects the municipality to central Tokyo and offers regular train services during the day. The flat terrain works well for cycling, and local roads run through fields between residential zones.
The eastern and western sections show hilly terrain, while the central area features flat, formerly marshy fields. These differences in ground conditions still influence the type of development found in each zone today.
