Hashima, Municipal city in Gifu Prefecture, Japan
Hashima is a city in Gifu Prefecture situated in central Japan's Nōbi Plain. The city occupies land between two major rivers, the Kiso and the Nagara, and serves as a residential and administrative center in the region.
The city was established on April 1, 1954, when the former town of Takenohana merged with nine surrounding villages. This consolidation created a new administrative unit in the region.
The local government maintains eight elementary schools, five middle schools, and one high school to support education within the community.
Most services and information are available through the municipal government offices located throughout the city. Visitors can ask about local transportation options and facilities at these administrative centers.
A local mobility program called Mobi offers residents and visitors unlimited ride options across different zones in the city. This approach to transportation reflects the local commitment to accessible public mobility.
