Umi is a town in Kasuya district, Fukuoka Prefecture, situated roughly 15 kilometers east-southeast of Fukuoka City. It spans around 30 square kilometers with northern sections developed primarily as residential neighborhoods.
The settlement was established as an official municipality in 1889 and gained town status on October 20, 1920. This transition reflected the administrative development of the area during the early 20th century.
Mount Shioji in the southern section offers hiking and outdoor activities that draw both residents and visitors to explore the natural surroundings. The area serves as a local destination for weekend outings and nature walks.
