Hakui, Coastal city in Noto Peninsula, Japan

Located in Ishikawa Prefecture, Hakui spans 81.85 square kilometers along the Sea of Japan with a population density of 270 people per square kilometer.

The ancient settlement of Hakui contains the Keta Taisha shrine, the principal Shinto sanctuary of Noto Province, dating back to the reign of Emperor Kogen.

The name Hakui originates from a tale about Prince Iwatsuku, who defeated a giant bird, with his dogs pulling feathers from its body.

The city maintains six elementary schools, two middle schools, three high schools, and multiple railway stations on the West Japan Railway Company Nanao Line.

The Cosmo Isle Hakui Space and UFO Museum exhibits authentic NASA artifacts, Soviet space mission items, and documentation of reported UFO encounters.
