Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, Public aquarium in Tempozan Harbor Village, Japan
The Osaka Aquarium spans eight floors with specialized tanks representing different Pacific Rim regions, containing over 470 marine species in natural habitats.
Peter Chermayeff designed this marine facility, which started welcoming visitors in July 1990 and received the Public Buildings Award for its architecture.
The aquarium presents marine environments through multiple floors, educating visitors about Pacific Ocean ecosystems and their preservation needs.
Located five minutes from Osakako Station on the Chuo Subway Line, the aquarium operates daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM with entry fees between 2,700-3,500 yen.

Marine museums present the history of seafaring, scientific exploration of the oceans, and the diversity of marine life. These institutions display ship models, nautical instruments, aquariums with living sea creatures, and exhibitions about oceanography. Visitors learn about historical voyages of discovery, modern ocean research, and the protection of marine ecosystems. Notable examples include the Oceanogràfic in Valencia with its various marine biotopes, the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam with its collection on Dutch naval history, and the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, founded in 1910. The Maritime Museum of San Diego preserves historic vessels, while the Museum of Oceanography in Sopot documents Baltic Sea research. These museums combine scientific education with the fascination for seas and oceans.
Osaka is Japan of contrasts. A city where 6th-century temples stand beside futuristic skyscrapers, where fish markets meet giant Dotonbori signs, and where the nights turn streets into a continuous show. More lively and spontaneous than Tokyo, Osaka maintains its accent, humor, and warmth. People come here to eat, stroll, and listen to the hum of a metropolis that never truly sleeps. Between medieval castles, Shinto shrines, avant-garde museums, and multi-level hot spring baths, the city presents both ancient and ultra-modern faces. Exploring Namba, Shinsekai, or Umeda reveals a unique energy, vibrant urban culture, and an attention to detail that makes Japan unforgettable.
