Kanazawa Station, Railway station in Kanazawa, Japan
Kanazawa Station is a major hub in Kanazawa that connects local trains, express services, and the Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train line. The building contains five island platforms with seven tracks, linked by covered walkways and elevators.
Operations began on April 1, 1898, when the city gained its connection to the rail network. The arrival of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line in 2015 cut travel time to Tokyo to under three hours.
The eastern entrance displays the Tsuzumi Gate, shaped like traditional Japanese hand drums used in local performances. This wooden structure reminds travelers of the city's craft heritage.
Several ticket offices and information desks sit on the main floor, along with shops and restaurants on both sides of the building. Buses and taxis stop directly outside the east and west exits.
The departure melodies at the Hokuriku Shinkansen platforms were composed by Yasutaka Nakata, a musician from Kanazawa. These short tunes replace the usual standard chimes and add a personal touch to the travel experience.
