Aisho

Aisho is a town in Echi district, Shiga Prefecture, located across flatlands in the Ōmi Basin and surrounded by mountains near Lake Biwa. The area is served by the Ohmi Railway Main Line and contains four elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school.

The area functioned as Echigawa-juku, the 65th post station on the Nakasendō highway linking Kyoto with eastern Japan during the Edo period. This position in the historic trade route shaped the town's early development.

The SekaiCo community center runs Japanese language programs and cultural exchanges that bring together local residents and international visitors regularly. This activity shapes daily community life and makes the town a meeting point for cross-cultural interaction.

Spring and autumn months offer the most comfortable weather for visiting, when the landscape is most welcoming. The railway station provides straightforward access, as the Ohmi Railway Main Line connects the town easily to surrounding areas.

Unlike many rural Japanese towns, this place has experienced population growth rather than decline. This unusual trend makes it a notable example of rural revitalization in Japan.
