Shibecha, Rural town in Kushiro Subprefecture, Japan
Shibecha is a small town in Kushiro Subprefecture located in eastern Hokkaido, situated across rolling terrain with pastures and fields that shape its rural character. The landscape is dominated by dairy farms and agricultural areas that form the backbone of daily life here.
The settlement was founded as Kumaushi Village in 1923 and renamed in 1929, later receiving town status in 1950. Since then it has developed as an agricultural center serving the surrounding farming communities.
The town maintains two dedicated judo clubs that organize yearly competitions in July, welcoming international participants to experience local martial arts traditions.
The town connects to larger Hokkaido cities through regional roads and offers basic services including schools and medical facilities. Visitors will find simple accommodations and local eateries serving food made from regional farm products.
The municipal mascots include Milkcook, a dairy cow representing hospitality, and Kurobe Happy, a bull celebrating local festivals since 2011.
