Nagomi, Rural town in Tamana district, Japan.
Nagomi is a rural town in northwestern Kumamoto Prefecture, spread across an area of agricultural land and residential spaces. It was formed in 2006 from the merger of two smaller communities and functions as a quiet administrative center today.
Two established communities, Kikusui and Mikawa, merged in 2006 to form the current administrative unit. The area's roots trace back to the former Higo Province, connecting it to a longer regional past.
The town carries forward farming traditions and local craftsmanship that shape daily life. These practices connect the community to the surrounding land and seasonal rhythms.
The town is accessible via the Kyushu Expressway and National Route 443, with nearby train stations at Omuta and Tamana available for connections. Visitors should expect rural infrastructure and plan ahead to explore the area comfortably.
Two national historic sites, the Eta Anakannon Kofun and Eta Funayama Kofun, are located here and reveal ancient burial practices. The remains of a former castle, Tanaka, add another layer to the archaeological heritage found across the area.
