Futaba district, Administrative district in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan
Futaba district spans 865 square kilometers along the Pacific coast, containing eight municipalities including Hirono, Naraha, Tomioka, and Kawauchi.
The district was formally established on April 1, 1896, and experienced substantial changes following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear incident in March 2011.
The district maintains traditional celebrations such as the January Daruma Market, where teams compete by pulling large daruma dolls through streets.
Following extensive decontamination efforts, specific areas within the district have received government approval for residents to return to their homes.
The population of the district decreased from 72,822 in 2010 to 7,338 in 2015 due to mandatory evacuation measures.
