Osamu Dazai Memorial Museum, Biographical museum in Goshogawara, Japan.

The Osamu Dazai Memorial Museum is an early 20th-century residence constructed entirely of Japanese cypress wood, containing roughly thirty rooms spread across two stories. The building displays fine craftsmanship in its wooden details and traditional Japanese architectural design throughout.

The house was built in 1907 by a wealthy landowner as a private residence, then later served as an inn for decades. The local government purchased the building in 1996 and transformed it into a museum.

The museum honors one of Japan's most influential modern writers, whose novels remain widely taught in schools today. Visitors encounter personal belongings that reveal how he lived and worked.

The museum sits about seven minutes walk from the train station and welcomes visitors every day. Comfortable shoes are recommended since you will walk through many rooms, and some areas feature traditional Japanese flooring.

The collections include handwritten manuscripts and personal correspondence between the writer and his contemporaries, offering insights into his creative thinking. These documents reveal how he communicated with other artists and developed his ideas.
