Goshogawara, Traditional festival city in Aomori Prefecture, Japan
Goshogawara is a town on the Tsugaru Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture with a population of around 50,000 residents spread across flatlands and coastal areas. The Iwaki River runs through the center and connects different neighborhoods with the surrounding farmland.
The town formed in 1954 when several villages merged in the Tsugaru region. In 2005 additional areas joined and expanded the territory toward the Sea of Japan coast.
The Tachineputa Festival features 23-meter-tall floats weighing 19 tons, decorated with samurai and mythical figures, parading through streets each August with traditional music.
The train station sits in the center and offers connections along the Tsugaru plain and to coastal neighborhoods. The Tachineputa Hall near the station displays large festival floats and has an observation platform on the sixth floor.
In 2024 the town created a new honorary award and gave it to sumo wrestler Takerufuji. He had recently won a championship and brought attention to the region.
