Takamatsu Airport, Commercial airport in Takamatsu, Japan
Takamatsu Airport is a regional aerodrome serving the southern Shikoku region with an asphalt runway. The terminal has four gates and connects the city to destinations across Japan and to South Korea and Taiwan.
The facility opened on December 16, 1958, as a regional transport hub launched by the national Ministry. Its creation marked the beginning of direct air service connecting the Shikoku region to Japan and neighboring countries.
The terminal has viewing areas where visitors watch planes take off and land up close. This reflects a Japanese tradition of spending time with departing travelers before they leave.
Bus services connect the airport to nearby cities like Kotohira, Kanonji, and Marugame via dedicated expressway routes. Shuttles run on regular schedules, making it straightforward to reach different parts of the region from here.
The airport sits at about 185 meters above sea level, making it higher than many other regional facilities. This elevation sometimes creates unusual weather patterns, especially when storms approach in autumn and winter.
